I do not meet the degree requirements stated in 1A above, but I possess a combination of education and experience which includes course work equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown in 1A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The quality of the combination of education and experience is sufficient to demonstrate that I possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation, and is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field.

C. I do not possess the basic requirements described above.

2. From the description below, select the one response that best describe how your background meets the basic education requirements for Biologist positions.

A. I have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in the biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

education is equivalent to 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of course work.

major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in
cartography and/or directly related science and mathematics as shown in 4A
above. One academic year of education is equivalent to 30 semester hours or 45
quarter hours of course work.

I have at least one year of specialized experience at least equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal Service that equipped me with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of qualifying specialized experience may include, but are not limited to: management of GIS databases; analysis of geo-referenced data; integration of a variety of GIS and database management; spatial analysis and modeling trends with geo-referenced data and GIS software.

B. I do not have the one year of specialized experience as defined in 5A above; however, I have successfully completed at least three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in or directly related fields, which is directly related to the work of this position and demonstrates possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position.

C. I do not have 1 full year of specialized experience as described above or the 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate study in a field directly related to the work of this position as shown above, but I have an equivalent combination of such education and experience. For example, I have 6 months of the specialized experience described (50% of the experience requirement), and 45 semester hours or 68 quarter hours of directly-related graduate level college study as defined above in an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education).

D. I do not have the experience and/or education described above.

6. Develop, manage, coordinate, or implement a Geographic Information System using ArcGIS software.

Oral communication and troubleshooting skills sufficient to provide advice and guidance in the application of GIS, GPS, and remote sensing technology to park natural resource managers, specialists, and peers in a clear and concise manner. Able to network or partner with other agencies or cooperators to share GIS data, knowledge, and skills.

8. Provide training, advice and guidance to natural resource managers and others in GIS, GPS, or remote sensing during troubleshooting procedures.

9. Coordinate the acquisition and management of GIS data with other Federal, State, and local resources offices and the academic community.

KSA-3. Ability to develop a detailed protocol for landscape dynamics analysis. Ability to use writing and organizational skills to develop a complex document through a process of research, development, review, and editing.

10. Produce technical reports, plans or similar documents that include cited research and incorporate GIS techniques and analysis.

11. Perform and interpret a landscape characterization or analysis using spatial data.

KSA-4. Knowledge of biotic and abiotic ecosystems factors and processes. Skill in working with biotic or abiotic spatial data.
