Thank you for your interest in a position with the Department of Justice (DOJ). Your response to this assessment questionnaire, in conjunction with other portions of your completed application, will be evaluated in making screening decisions.

This is a DOJ job application system. Your responses in this Assessment Questionnaire are subject to evaluation and verification. Later steps in the selection process are specifically designed to verify your responses. For each of the following questions, please select the response that best describes your education and/or experience. You may select only one response for each question. If you feel that your education or experience exceeds all of the descriptions for a particular question, choose the description that is the closest level to the experience or education that you possess. Failure to respond to these questions will result in an ineligible rating.

1. From the descriptions below, select the ONE response that BEST describes the education and/or experience that you possess that demonstrates your ability to perform as a GS-201-12, Public Affairs Specialist:

A. I have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as performing the following types of tasks: working as a reporter, news director, editor, or other position that involves covering, developing, and/or presenting news stories for a private sector media organization, such as a major television network, major newspaper or widely circulated news journal; providing representatives of print and broadcast media with timely and accurate explanations of an organization's programs, policies and objectives; or managing the distribution of public information of an organization whose business involves complex, or sensitive matters and daily interaction with the media.
B. I do not have the experience as described above.

B. I do not have the experience as described above.

3. Knowledge of the processes, operations, and culture of print or broadcast media, needed to establish and maintain productive working relations with media organizations in a major U.S. media market. Applicants must have at least one year of experience that involves one of the following:

A. Serving as a public information officer for an organization having daily interaction with private sector print or broadcast media representatives in a major U.S. media market (ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, Fox, AP, Bloomberg, or the equivalent) regarding "hard news" stories, e.g., news stories relating to crime, law enforcement actions, justice, legislation, trials, court decisions, developments in the financial market, scientific research, and technology. Daily interaction includes writing and issuing press releases or news articles for distribution to the public or to print or broadcast media; and receiving and responding to media inquiries, either orally or in writing, or arranging for another person in the organization to respond to the media inquiry.

B. Working as a member of the private sector print or broadcast media in a major U.S. media market (ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, Fox, AP, Bloomberg, or the equivalent) as a reporter, news director, or editor, writing, orally reporting, editing or directing "hard news" stories, e.g., news stories relating to crime, law enforcement actions, legislation, trials, court decisions, and developments in the financial market, scientific research, and technology.

Arranges, coordinates, or participates in press conferences relating to "hard" news stories about matters such as crime, law enforcement actions, justice, legislation, ethics, trials, court decisions, developments in the financial markets, scientific research, and technology that include representatives of members of private sector print or broadcast media.

11. Organizes and develops media outreach programs to publicize an organization's work and/or initiatives to local and national audiences.
