Thank you for your interest in a position with the Department of Justice (DOJ). Your response to this assessment questionnaire, in conjunction with other portions of your completed application, will be evaluated in making screening decisions.

This is a DOJ job application system. Your responses in this Assessment Questionnaire are subject to evaluation and verification. Later steps in the selection process are specifically designed to verify your responses. Deliberate attempts to falsify information will be grounds for disqualifying you or for dismissing you from employment following acceptance. For each of the followings grade level GS-5 questions, please select the response that best describes your education and/or experience. You may select only one response for each question. If you feel that your education or experience exceeds all of the descriptions for a particular question, choose the description that is the closest level to the experience or education that you possess. Failure to respond to these questions will result in an ineligible rating.

1. From the descriptions below, select the ONE response that BEST describes the education and/or experience that you possess that demonstrates your ability to perform as a GS-5 Financial Technician.

A. I have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level in Federal service. My qualifying experience involved performing the following types of duties: performing clerical or technical work in support of accounting, budget, financial management, or fiscal operations; compiling figures, maintaining records; compiling reports; performing work which represents the transactions or business of an organizational; examining vouchers to verify requests made against the record of what was authorized; and comparing requests and statements against various authorizing documents, with receipt, delivery, inspection or acceptance certificates.

B. I have successful completed four years of education above the high school level. (This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.)

C. I have a combination of specialized experience as described in A and education as described in B which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.

D. I do not have the education or experience as described above.

3. Assist budget officer in providing information and guidance to staff on procedures, forms, and documentation required to support travel vouchers.

4. Prepare and process vouchers and invoices for payments.

5. Verify financial invoices to ensure validity, correctness, and completeness.

6. Determine appropriate payments to vendors.

7. Research payment files to determine whether pending invoices or vouchers have been previously paid to prevent duplicate payments.

8. Apply mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction and multiplication to verify figures and account balances.

9. Ensure the timely processing of accounting documents submitted by internal and external personnel that require actions.

10. Resolve minor problems and disputed bills or payments.

11. Provide guidance and assistance to personnel on the completion of various financial management requests and travel vouchers.

12. Process vouchers and other financial documents.

13. Research and apply regulations, policies and procedures.

14. Work with customer to identify and correct process deficiencies and ensure supporting documentation is sufficient and accessible.

15. Utilize accounting systems to track funds.

16. Reconcile accounting or budgetary data by use of an automated financial system.

17. Manage automated travel systems.

18. Maintain accounting records.

19. Examine transactions involving vouchers, cash receipts or invoices to ensure accounting codes, signatures, prices, and services are annotated.


20. Communicate orally and in writing with employees and other agency personnel in the performance of duties.
