Thank you for your interest in the Statistician (GS-1530-12/13) position at our Agency. We will evaluate your resume and your responses to this Assessment Questionnaire to determine if you are among the best qualified for this position. Your responses are subject to verification. 1. Choose the one answer that best describes how you meet the Minimum Education requirements for the Statistician position as described in the Qualifications Section of the Vacancy Announcement.

A. I qualify for this position because I have a degree that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), and 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements is given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests and measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing.
B. I qualify for this position because I have a combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, and (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple and multiple correlation, analysis of variance, and tests of significance.

A. I qualify for this position at the GS-12 level because I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 obtained in either the private or public sector that included the following tasks and responsibilities: establishing study methods and techniques to be utilized in studies and audits; interpreting findings resulting from studies that are independently developed; developing recommendations for program officials and supervisors that are accepted by operating components; (recommendations include work method or procedural changes, systems variations, and acceptance of new technology developments; analyzing and evaluating, on a quantitative and/or qualitative basis, the effectiveness of programs or operations in meeting established goals, measures, and objectives; analyzing and preparing program status reports for review at all levels; reviewing internal processes and procedures, making recommendations for improvements to promote efficiency and cost savings; performing program cost analyses such as development of life cycle or other cost analyses of projects, or performance of cost benefit or economic evaluations of programs; and developing various statistical tables and reports, new or modified work methods, management processes and procedures for administering program services, guidelines and procedures for program operations.
