Thank you for your interest in a position with the Department of Justice (DOJ). Your response to this assessment questionnaire, in conjunction with other portions of your completed application, will be evaluated in making screening decisions.

This is a DOJ job application system. Your responses in this Assessment Questionnaire are subject to evaluation and verification. Later steps in the selection process are specifically designed to verify your responses. For each of the following questions, please select the response that best describes your education and/or experience. You may select only one response for each question. If you feel that your education or experience exceeds all of the descriptions for a particular question, choose the description that is the closest level to the experience or education that you possess. Failure to respond to these questions will result in an ineligible rating.

1. From the descriptions below, select the ONE response that BEST describes the education and/or experience that you possess that demonstrates your ability to perform as a GS-05 File Assistant.

A. I have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level in Federal service. My qualifying experience involved performing the following types of duties: receiving, researching, retiring, and tracking files.

B. I have 4 years of education above high school.

C. I have a combination of specialized experience as described in A and education as described in B which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. (Please note: Only education as described in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e. beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement.)

D. I do not have the education or experience as described above.

2. The work of this position requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing of tall ladders, lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds, using a hand truck/dolly, and crouching or crawling in restricted areas. Incumbent of this position will be REQUIRED to lift and carry heavy boxes/objects with considerable and strenuous physical exertion. Are you willing and able to perform these duties?

5. Determines the most appropriate guide that would be applicable to specific cases or problems

6. Ensures that all case files are properly closed with the use of appropriate case filing system prior to dispatching case files to the record's management unit for processing.

7. Ensures that a central drop-off and pick-up location for closed out files exist in each section.

8. Checks and matches all information on case jacket, closing form and barcode, prior to closing the case.

9. Ensures that any discrepancies are brought to the immediate attention of appropriate section supervisor.

10. Retrieves case files as expeditiously as possible.

11. Prepares closed case files for shipping and storage.

12. Receives, screens, and sorts all case files to ensure proper annotation for filing and closing of case jackets and investigative case files.

13. Ensures necessary information is typed and affixed on each jacket and charge-out card.

14. Determines whether a case is closed or still pending and places appropriate stamp and annotates disposition on the cover.

15. Inspects all files and identifies non-record material for removal from the case jacket prior to filing.

16. Incorporate materials with existing files.

17. Applies policy guidelines for handling, storing, processing, and transferring records of all types.

18. Checks and matches all information on the jacket, barcode, and closing form prior to closing the case

19. Verifies and indicates that the case was closed and noted the date the file was received to be processed.

20. Reviews and examines files and various documents to determine which data may be needed in the course of day-to-day business or may be of a paramount or historical value.

21. Prepares record and transmittal receipts to request retrieval of file.
