Thank you for your interest in this Park Ranger (Protection) position located at Boston National Historical Park. Your responses to this questionnaire, in conjunction with other portions of your completed application, will be evaluated to determine your eligibility for consideration and your qualifications for the position advertised. This Park Ranger (Protection) position requires that an applicant must either possess a current NPS Type I Law Enforcement Commission or have completed an approved FLETC training program as a prerequisite to obtaining a NPS Type I Law Enforcement Commission prior to their entry-on-duty. You will be rated ineligible for this position if you do not meet this selective factor.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience include: work in resource protection, visitor protection and law enforcement programs including search and rescue operations; planning and coordination of investigations; research and preparation of incident and investigation reports; work involving the development and implementation of policies and / or procedures related to the visitor and resource protection operations, experience in the administrative responsibilities of program management (budget, contracting, human resources); coordination and operation of resource protection, visitor protection and law enforcement programs; goal oriented planning and accomplishment of work through coordination of paid staff, volunteers, and local, state and federal entities.

B. I have successfully completed at least two full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education or master's or equivalent graduate degree related to the occupation in one of the following fields: natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement / police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. C. I have less than one year of full-time specialized experience comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower graded level of this GL-09 position (comparable to GS-07 / GL-07) as defined in answer choice A above and I have completed less than two full academic years of progressively higher level graduate education or master?s or equivalent graduate degree as defined in answer choice B above, but I have an equivalent combination of Specialized Experience and Graduate Education. For example, I have 6 months of the specialized experience described above (50% of the experience requirement), and one and a half academic years of directly-related graduate level education (50% of the qualifying education).
