You must provide transcripts from all educational institutions attended to verify your education. Failure to provide transcripts may cause you to lose consideration for the position.

A. I possess a degree in microbiology, biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included at least 20 semester hours in microbiology or other subjects related to the study of microorganisms, and 20 semester hours in the physical and mathematical sciences combining course work in organic chemistry or biochemistry, physics, and college algebra, or their equivalent
B. I possess courses equivalent to a major as shown in A above plus additional education or appropriate experience.
C. I do not possess the education and/or experience described above.

2. Do you possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service, planning and executing research to identify foodborne bacterial pathogens; applying molecular methods that result in a cultural isolate; evaluating the quality and efficiency of various microbiological methods and recommending new approaches; providing advice and guidance to junior staff on food microbiology issues; and developing reports of scientific research findings?

A. Yes (this experience must be reflected in your resume)
B. No

For each of the items below, select the one statement that most accurately describes your experience and capability using the scale below.

A- I have no experience in performing this work behavior.
B- I have limited experience in performing this work behavior. I have had exposure to this work behavior but would require additional guidance, instruction, or experience to perform it at a proficient level.
C- I have experience performing this work behavior across routine or predictable situations with minimal supervision or guidance.
D- I have performed this work behavior independently across a wide range of situations. I have assisted others in carrying out this work behavior. I seek guidance in carrying out this work behavior only in unusually complex situations.

3. Advise on how food surfaces will affect cultural and molecular methods to detect and/or isolate Listeria monocytogenes in food.

4. Evaluate and validate cultural and molecular methods used for the detection and isolation of L. monocytogenes and Listeria spp. in foods.

5. Apply molecular methods into classical cultural methodologies that result in a cultural isolate.

6. Apply modem Listeria spp. molecular methods and cultural media to simply and speed up traditional enumeration methods in foods.

7. Plan and Implement research to investigate and improve the detection of Listeria monocytogenes in foods.

8. Conduct studies on microbiological and molecular methods that include Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), immuno-magnetic separation, DNA-based detection, and diagnostic plating.

9. Conduct rapid microbiological and molecular surveys of produce and other food commodities for the presence of various foodborne pathogens.

10. Interpret results of foodborne pathogenic bacteria scientific research.

11. Conduct validation studies for methods designed to detect enteric pathogens including Salmonella, Shigella, and E. coli.

12. Write research plans and procedures for a scientific program.
