I possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal Service; serves as an entry-level Information Technology (IT) Specialist (INFOSEC); responsible for gaining proficiency and knowledge in the IT Security field, while contributing to enhancement of the security and reliability of information systems; scheduling the sequence of programs to be processed by computers where alternatives had to be weighed with a view to production efficiency; using database management concepts to assist with the development of related systems; and, preparing feasibility studies - in addition to possessing IT-related experience demonstrating each of the following four competencies: Attention to Detail; Customer Service; Oral Communication; and, Problem Solving.
B. I have successfully completed, at an accredited college or university, at least one (1) full year of graduate education OR I possess a bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) based on ONE of the following: (1) class standing (upper third standing in graduating class); -or- (2) grade-point average (2.95 or higher overall or over the last two years of bachelor's degree -or- 3.45 in my major field or over the last two years in my major); -or-(3) election to membership in a national scholastic honor society. The education is in the following: Major study - computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

I possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal Service translating detailed logical steps into software programming language/code(s) with consideration to the procedures and limitations of those languages; proficiency and knowledge in the IT Security field; interviewing subject matter personnel to get facts regarding work processes and synthesizing the resulting data into charts showing information flow; scheduling the sequence of programs to be processed by computers where alternatives had to be weighed with a view to production efficiency; using database management concepts to assist with the development of related systems; and, preparing feasibility studies; applying a series of different and unrelated processes and methods; decide what needs to be done based on analyses of the subjects and issues related to the assignment; and selects appropriate courses of action from many acceptable alternatives; identifies and analyzes important factors and conditions in order to recognize and apply an understanding of interrelationships among different IT functions and activities - in addition to possessing IT-related experience demonstrating each of the following four competencies: Attention to Detail; Customer Service; Oral Communication; and, Problem Solving.
B. I have a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or have successfully completed 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Master's degree in such fields as computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
C. I have less than the one-year of experience as described in "A", and I have not completed my graduate level education as described in "B". However, I have a combination of experience and graduate level education that, when combined, equals at least 100% of the total requirement. (To compute, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first 18 semester hours by 18. Add the two percentages. 4. Participates with more senior team members in testing new theories, concepts, principles, standards, methods, policies, and procedures related to information security to prevent and defend against unauthorized access to systems, networks, and data.

5. Contributes to the annual development, update, and implementation of critical security documents to include: the System Security Plan, Incident Response Plans, Configuration Management and Risk Assessment Plans

6. Participates in systems security evaluations, audits, and reviews, and recommends corrective action to be taken.

7. Aid in enforcement of IT Security standards, processes and procedures to ensure the cconfidentiality, integrity, and availability of the overall network.

8. Assist in developing the annual Security Assessment Report, System Security Plans, and key documents for all General Support Systems and Major Applications.

9. Contributes to the development of annual IT Security Plans and implements policies and standards for compliance.

10. Select from a variety of programming languages the one best to program for a client's needs

11. Plan, code, debug, and maintain software that supports functional requirements of an organization.

12. Serves as a junior member of the IT Security Team responsible for Penetration Tests, Vulnerability Scans, and mitigation of Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&M) based on organization guidelines.

13. Assist in safeguarding procedures for the protection of sensitive information in development of Configuration Management procedures, IT Awareness training, and Rule of Behaviors for assigned personnel.

14. Contributes in developing portions of quarterly IT Security training and briefings for key managers and administrators; discusses the content of briefings with more senior employees to gain greater understanding of the information being conveyed.

15. Aids in integrating the Defense-In-Depth structure with the Security Architecture for the deployment of Firewall rules, Access Control Lists, Intrusion Detection Systems, and secure baseline configurations.

16. Using Cyber Security Assessment and Management (CSAM) tool, aids in completion of the annual Security Assessment for the Certification and Accreditations (C&A) for three reportable IT systems: two General Support Systems (GSS) and one Major Application.

17. Identify and analyze important factors and conditions in order to recognize and apply an understanding of interrelationships among different IT functions and activities.

18. Define security requirements for new software applications.

19. Reviews technical specifications; performs risk analyses, including risk assessments; identifies potential security risks; and recommends program modifications to ensure proper levels of security are implemented.
