Minimum Qualifications for GS-07

1. From the descriptions below, select one response that best describes how your background meets the basic experience or education requirements for a Park Ranger (Protection), GS-0025-07 position. A. I possess one year (12 months) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the federal service. Specialized experience is experience performing law enforcement duties for the protection, conservation, use, and management of natural and/or cultural resources in park areas or similar operations, which involved the application of law enforcement authorities and procedures to protect visitors and resources.

B. I do not have the one year of specialized experience as described above; however, I have one year of graduate level study (18 semester hours) in a directly related field such as law enforcement, police science, criminology or other closely related subject pertinent to the protection of natural and cultural resources.

IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE: If you are using education to qualify you must submit a copy of your transcripts that identifies for each course the college or university, semester or quarter hours earned, course level, grade received, and date completed. (A copy of your official transcripts will be required before entrance on duty, if selected.

C. I have NOT completed 1 full year (12 months) of specialized experience as described in A above or the 1 year of qraduate level study as indicated in B above, however, I have an equivalent combination of education and experience. Example:  6 months of specialized experience as described above may be combined with one-half year (9 semester hours) of graduate level college study in a directly-related field of study as described above to meet the qualification requirements.

In addition to the minimum qualifications described above, selectees must possess or be able to obtain a National Park Service, Level II, Law Enforcement Commission or equivalent by the entrance on duty date, which requires successful completion of an approved Seasonal Law Enforcement Training Program. Please select the response below that best describes your qualifications in this area. If you do not meet the requirements of this selective factor, you will be rated ineligible for this position. You MUST submit documentation of how you meet this requirement, as indicated below, to be considered qualified for this position.

A. I currently hold, or have previously held (within the past three years), a National Park Service Seasonal (Level II) or full (Level I) law enforcement commission, or equivalent.

B. I have successfully completed a Seasonal Law Enforcement Training Program during the last three years, but have not yet received a National Park Service Seasonal (Level II) Law Enforcement Commission but will by the entrance on duty date.

C. I will successfully complete a Seasonal Law Enforcement Training Program from one of the approved participating academies found at http://www.anpr.org/academies.htm. I will be able to provide a Level II Law Enforcement Commision by the entrance on duty date. NOTE: This is not regular police officer training.

D. I do not have a National Park Service law enforcement commission and will not be able to obtain one by the entrance on duty date of this announcement.

4. I am certified as a First Responder, EMT-B, paramedic, or park medic.

A. I currently possess a First Responder certification.

B. I currently possess an EMT Basic or higher level of emergency medical certification (you must indicate type of certificate, where obtained, and expiration date on your resume).

C. I will successfully complete an EMT Basic or higher level of emergency medical training and certification prior to entering on duty (you must indicate school you will be/are attending and your expected completion date on your resume).

D. I do not have any of the emergency medical certifications listed above and will not be able to obtain this prior to entering on duty.
